Certifications Offered

Lamar CISD CTE offers a number of opportunities for students to earn industry related certifications in a variety of courses. These certifications are designed to give students an early advantage in the workplace.

Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) - Certificates demonstrate that you have specialist skills in using Microsoft applications. They are a globally recognized standard. Microsoft say they are the" only comprehensive, performance-based certification program approved by Microsoft to validate desktop computer skills." Students must obtain 85% or better on the practice test as per the rubric for district funding of exams.

CareerSafe - The goal of the CareerSafe program is to teach younger workers how to stay safe in the workplace and begin to prepare these young men and women for a safe and prosperous future in their chosen career. By providing entry-level workers, particularly high school and college students, with fundamental safety knowledge needed in the workplace, this program brings the significance of safety to the forefront. Additionally, it seeks to challenge society to affirm the value of life by joining efforts to reduce the workplace injuries and fatalities suffered by this at risk working population. Students in most CTE Practicums will be given this training to assist them in work place safety knowledge.

ServSafe Food Handler is designed to educate food service employees who work with unpackaged food, food equipment or utensils, or food contact surfaces on the training required in the Texas Food Establishment Rules. The Food Handler certification consists of:  Foodborne Illness; Good Hygienic Practices; Preventing Contamination by Employees; Cross Contamination; Time and Temperature and more. 

The ServSafe® Food Protection Manager is the highest certification awarded by ServSafe. The certificate is earned by passing the ServSafe manager exam. The exam focuses on five aspects of food service that can affect the safety of food:  Foodborne Microorganisms & Allergens; Personal Hygiene; Purchasing, Receiving and Storage; Preparation, Cooking and Serving; and Facilities, Cleaning/Sanitizing and Pest Management.  Practicum students must obtain 85% or better on units and practice tests as per the rubric for district funding of exams.

With certification, hiring managers will know that work similar to the excellent portfolio they just reviewed can be accomplished efficiently.Students must obtain 85% or better on the practice test as per the rubric for distict funding of the exams.

ASE Certified Programs by the National Automotive Technician Education Foundation(NATEF), and AYES(Automotive Youth Education Systems). LCISD's automotive program gives students a jump start on their ASE certification. After two years of relevant work experience, prospective candidates register to take one or more of ASE's exams.

The Exam for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ExCPT) is a nationally accredited certification exam for pharmacy technicians offered by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA). The exam is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA). Candidates who successfully challenge the certification exam will earn the CPhT designation and Certified Pharmacy Technician credentials. All certified pharmacy technicians are required to complete continuing education and recertify every two years.

NCCER develops standardized construction and maintenance curriculum and assessments with portable credentials.   These credentials are tracked through NCCER’s Registry System that allows organizations and companies to track the qualifications of their craft professionals and/or check the qualifications of possible new hires. NCCER's Registry System also assists craft professionals by maintaining their records in a secure database.

ECG/EKG Technicians are allied health professionals responsible for performing diagnostic tests to assess the patient's heart rhythm and rate. They ensure proper electrode placement on the patient, record the ECG (electrocardiograms), prepare the report for the physician, ensure patient comfort and safety, and troubleshoot abnormalities with the recording.  The certification test covers medical terminology, anatomy and physiology of the heart, diseases and disorders of the heart, electrocardiography, pharmacology, and general patient care.

The mission of the American Association of Medical Assistants is to provide the medical assistant professional with education, certification, credential acknowledgment, networking opportunities, scope-of-practice protection, and advocacy for quality patient-centered health care.  Medical assistants are allied healthcare professionals responsible for various clinical and/or administrative duties. They perform clinical functions including but not limited to direct patient care and preparation, taking a patient’s history, preparing an examination room, assisting physicians during examinations, prepares and transports specimens, ECG, phlebotomy, and pharmacology while maintaining patient safety and confidentiality. They may also perform administrative duties such as scheduling appointments, maintaining patient records, bookkeeping, and billing and insurance processing.  The certification test covers anatomy and physiology, safety and infection control, medical laws and ethics, medical office administration, healthcare systems, patient care and medical terminology which is inclusive throughout the exam.

Patient Care Assistant or Patient Care Technician can give basic nursing care under the supervision of a licensed nurse.  Some other titles could be certified nursing assistant, health care technician, licensed nursing assistant, or nurse’s aide.  The certification test covers anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, OSHA/Infection Control, medical law and ethics, patient care skills, and medical terminology.

Educational Aide I requirements: must be a high school graduate (or hold a General Educational Development (GED) certificate); have experience working with students or parents as approved by the employing superintendent; experience may be work in church related schools, day camps, youth groups, private schools, licensed day-care centers, or similar experience; or be a high school student 18 years of age or older; and have a final grade of 70 or better in two or more education and training courses specified for three or more credits verified in writing by the superintendent of the district where the credits were earned. The education and training courses must include Instructional Practices, and Practicum in Education and Training.

TVMA - Veterinary Assistant Level I certification, documents the basic skills and competencies required for animal care and assistance. The student learns the essential skills and knowledge needed to become effective contributors to the veterinary medical care team. Student needs to complete: 500 hours of work experience under the supervision of a DVM or LVT, Mastering all required Level I materials, Gaining and demonstrating the hands-on skills listed on the Skills Validation Checklist, Exam Application and Skills Validation Checklist completed and approved by the DVM or LVT, and Successful completion of the certification examination (70%).

S/P2 Automotive training and certification is specifically designed for automotive service students, as well as collision repair and refinish students. S/P2 students learn safety awareness and the hazards of the shop environment–before they enter the workplace.  LCISD Automotive students will complete their S/P2 training certification for each of the courses within the Automotive Cluster.

Texas State Florists’ Association Knowledge Based, Level 1 and Level 2 Floral Certifications

Retail florists are always looking for floral designers who know how to create the basic designs needed in a shop on a daily basis.  TSFA has begun to fulfill this need by the development in 2003, of the Texas High School Certification program.  This certification program allows school districts to provide more value to their diploma and helps provide young enthusiastic floral designers to meet the retail florist needs!

Requirements for the certification were enrollment and completion of the year long Texas Education Agency approved floral design curriculum and passing a TSFA approved written and the design of two floral pieces in a timed setting.
