Child Find

Child Find Procedures

Lamar CISD is required to implement a comprehensive Child Find system in which district personnel engage in activities designed to locate and identify students with disabilities. The Child Find process is to identify, locate, and evaluate all children with disabilities who are in need of special education and related services who reside within the school district's boundaries or attend a private school within the district's boundaries.

The process of referring students to Special Education in the Lamar CISD occurs as one possible outcome of the campus Problem Solving Teams (PST). A primary focus of the PST is the identification of interventions for the student and progress monitoring to guide the content and intensity of interventions. A referral to Special Education will occur when there is evidence that the student has not responded to interventions which were implemented with fidelity and appropriately targeted the student's difficulty.

Campus Referral

A referral for special education testing is initiated via a campus Problem Solving Team (PST) meeting.

  • Referral information is collected and sent to the Referral Review Committee at the Special Education Annex.
  • Referral is processed within 15 school days.
  • If the Referral Review Committee determines an evaluation is not needed, Prior Written Notice will be provided to the parent.
  • If the Referral Review Committee determines an evaluation is needed, the campus counselor will provide parent with Prior Written Notice, Notice of Evaluation, Procedural Safeguards, and Guide to the ARD Process, Consent to Evaluate, Parent Questionnaire, and Emotional Behavior Questionnaire for those students that will be evaluated.
  • Once the parent returns signed consent, the Diagnostician/LSSP/Speech Pathologist has 45 school days to complete the evaluation process.
  • An ARD/lEP Meeting will be scheduled within 30 calendar days to review evaluation results.

Parent Request

  • Parent Request are sent directly to the Director of Special Programs.
  • An ARD/IEP Meeting will be scheduled within 30 calendar days to review evaluation results.
