Nurse's Corner

Clinic Expectations

  • MEDICATIONS:

Medications that are required (prescribed medication) to be given during school hours and/or Emergency medications should be dropped off with all the required paper work from both the parent and physician during the week of August 24th.

*The link for the appropriate paper work can be found on your school's website under "About" and then "Nurse".

*For students who need medication for ADD/ADHD during school hours, the medication will need to be brought to the clinic by appointment time along with the appropriate paperwork.

*Controlled substance medication that needs to be administered before school is encouraged to be given at home. If your child needs to the medication twice a day, you may want to consider an extended released prescription, please contact your child's pediatrician. Exceptions will be made on a case by case basis.

*Due to the fact that headaches, sinus/nasal congestion, sore throat, and some allergy symptoms overlap with COVID 19 symptoms, medications such as Tylenol, Motrin, Ibuprofen, and decongestants in the clinic is strongly discouraged.

  • ASTHMA INHALERS:

*It is encouraged that your child uses a spacer with their inhaler.

*If your child's respiratory symptoms do not improve, please encourage your child to come to the clinic to be assessed.

*Should your child have an asthma exacerbation period, please consult with your child's physician to see if it is safe to come to school and provide a note stating that the symptoms are not COVID 19 related.

*Due to limited availability of data, it is uncertain whether aerosols generated by nebulizer treatments are potentially infectious. Therefore, nebulizer treatments at school is discouraged and your child should stay home for his/her own safety.

  • ILLNESS/INJURY:
*All illness/injury will be treated as necessary.

*Parents will be notified on an individual basis.

  • COMMUNICATION:

*A minimum of 2 emergency contacts (other than parents) must be added to Skyward. All students that are ill will need to be picked up within 30 minutes and no longer than one hour. Please make sure your voicemail box is set up so that me may leave a message if needed. We are asking that you please check your phone frequently during the school hours.

*Parents will be called and updated in the event their child was seen by the nurse for a medical issue but may not necessarily receive a call for a minor issue.

*Students are discouraged to call/text their parent to be picked up from school because they are not feeling well. All students needs to be seen by the nurse to determine if the student needs to be sent home…..this helps us in keeping track of which student went home and why.

Return to School Guidelines

Food allergies can be life threatening. The risk of accidental exposure to foods can be reduced in the school setting if schools work with students, parents, and physicians to minimize risks and provide a safe educational environment for food-allergic students. Provide written medical documentation, instructions, and medications as directed by a physician, using the Food Allergy Action Plan as a guide. Include a photo of the child on the written form.
