Nearly 3,000 student musicians will take the field Saturday as Lamar CISD hosts the Sixth Annual Lamar Invitational Marching Band Contest. The contest begins at 1:30 p.m. at Traylor Stadium. The Lamar Invitational is open to the public. Adult admission is $5, students and children are $3.
The contest will feature the four Lamar CISD high school bands, plus 19 other schools from the Greater Houston area. Performances are evaluated by an independent panel of UIL adjudicators who offer the band directors critical feedback on how to improve their performances prior to the UIL contests in mid-October.
Lamar CISD high school bands have been working on marching and music since August 1.
Bands from the Richmond-Rosenberg area begin performing at 7 p.m. Travis High School steps off at 7 p.m., followed by East Bernard High School, at about 7:30 p.m.
Foster High School will take the field at 7:45 p.m., followed by Lamar Consolidated High School at 8 p.m. Terry High School marches at 8:15 p.m. and George Ranch High School will close the show at 8:30 p.m.
An awards ceremony will begin after the scores have been tabulated.
