Counselor's Corner

Hello Huskies!

We are incredibly excited for the year ahead. Our role at Hubenak is to ensure all students succeed academically and socially. We work with students, teachers, and parents to facilitate a positive school experience. We use our experiences as teachers, counselors, and parents to help ensure students’ needs are met.

We look forward to continuing using Character Counts 5.0 along with all LCISD campuses. We will conduct guidance lessons for all classes each month, holding small groups, Character Counts Hall of Fame, and Escape Rooms to celebrate the pillars of Character Counts. We are very excited about this year and all the incredible opportunities for our husky families.

We are certified Solution Focused Counselors, allowing us to focus on helping students find solutions. This technique is being applied with the staff, and the campus is moving towards being more solution-focused and less problem-focused.

Check out the "Hubenak’s School Counseling Hub” canvas page for more information throughout the school year.

Who is a School Counselor?

A certified, trained, and caring professional who works with all students, parents, teachers, staff, and the community, in an effort to ensure that all students can achieve academic and social success. School Counseling services are delivered in four specific ways:

  • School Counseling Curriculum - designing, structuring, and delivering classroom lessons designed to achieve specific competencies in all grades PK-5 (personal/social, academic, career) and driven by the needs of the school population.

  • Student Planning - assisting students with goal formation/planning (behavioral, academic, etc.) through individual and group counseling.

  • Responsive Services - meeting immediate student needs (counseling, crisis intervention, consultation, referral, peer mediation, information-providing).

  • System Support - school-wide program planning and implementation. As well as consulting with other professionals, coordination of various supports for students and families.

The No Place for Hate® initiative provides educators and students with the resources to ensure that anti-bias and diversity education are an integral part of the school curriculum.  No Place for Hate® also helps to create and sustain inclusive school environments where all students feel valued and have the opportunity to succeed by promoting respect for individual difference while challenging bigotry and prejudice.  Launched in schools in 2001, the popular initiative has been embraced by hundreds of campuses throughout the Southwest region, including many in the Houston, Austin/Central Texas and El Paso areas.
