Approximately 120 students from Lamar CISD and surrounding districts attended the Technology Student Association (TSA) Jumpstart event at George Ranch High School on Sept. 22.

The annual Jumpstart event, now in its fourth year, is hosted by George Ranch High School Lead Engineering Teacher Emily Gresham and Reading Jr. High Engineering Teacher Rachelle Ferguson. During the event, students try a variety of STEM-related activities to prepare them for TSA competitions during the school year and help them decide which courses they're interested in. The courses are taught by former Lamar CISD students, current seniors, teachers and business professionals.

From programming and engineering to sewing and photography, Jumpstart offers students a variety of options and covers almost every area of technology. Students also learn about public speaking, creative writing and problem solving, skills that can prepare them for competitions and beyond.
