April is designated as National Child Abuse Prevention Month. This Friday, April 8th, students and staff are encouraged to wear blue for “Texas Go Blue Day” to raise child abuse awareness. The exception to this is our kindergarten students who will need to wear their class shirts as they will be traveling to the zoo. April was first declared Child Abuse Prevention Month by presidential proclamation in 1983. Since then, April has been a time to acknowledge the importance of families and communities working together to prevent child abuse. It was reported that in 2014 an estimated 646,261 children were victims of child abuse or neglect, and 1,580 children died as a result of abuse or neglect.
The majority of child abuse cases stemmed from situations and conditions that can be preventable when community programs and systems are engaged and supportive. A community that cares about early childhood development, parental support, and maternal mental health is more likely to foster nurturing families and healthy children.
Report cards will be going home this Thursday and Success Assemblies will be Friday with the exception of kindergarten. Theirs will be on Monday at 2:00. Have a great weekend!!!
