Next Monday, February 22^nd, we will begin the new pickup and drop off procedures.  The details of the new procedure are listed on the Austin Elementary School webpage (click here for details).  Please help us to make this a smooth transition by being patient and courteous to other drivers and staff.  We ask that you do not park in the driveway in front of the school as the buses will use this area for pickup.  Cars parked here will keep the buses from entering and exiting the school grounds.  We have asked the Sheriff’s Department to help us in directing traffic for the first few days of this change.  Once everyone gets into the routine of how things will operate, we will continue with Mr. Jerry helping to direct traffic.  Students who are picked up by car will now be sitting by grade level in the gym awaiting their name to be called to load their vehicle.  The pickup will be much more organized and students will be protected inside in case of bad weather.  There will be 7 designated positions outside on the pickup porch.  Students will be directed to the number location of their car.  I know some of you are not happy with this change and would prefer to keep things as is.  Change is always difficult and we all have a hard time changing our routines.  This decision was made with input from the Sheriff’s office, Pecan Grove Fire Department, EMS services, and the LCISD Operations Department.  Ultimately I had to make the final decision and felt the change was in the best interest of safety for the school and the community.  If you have any questions concerning the new procedures,  please do not hesitate to call the school.
